Wheelchair Curling

This is an increasingly popular game that requires precision, strategy and strength to slide 20 kilograms of granite towards a target. Wheelchair curling became a Paralympic discipline in Turin in 2006. As we look forward to Milano Cortina 2026, here is everything you need to know about the sport.

Competitions

This is a mixed team sport open to men and women with physical disabilities in their legs. During each ‘end’, each player throws two stones for a total of 8 stones per team. The goal is to get the stone as close as possible to the centre of the house to score a point. A team can score multiple points if there are two or more stones close to the centre. The stone can be thrown using the hand or an extender.

At Milano Cortina 2026. wheelchair curling competitions will be held at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.
